GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- With the 47th Super Bowl just two days away, some are getting excited for the game, while others may still be in the dark on basic information about the two teams playing.
The game will be played between the Baltimore Raves and San Francisco 49ers, that much most may know, but Petie Pope of the Jim Davis show says it's sure to be an interesting one. That’s because for the first time in NFL history, the two competing coaches are brothers.
“For the San Francisco 49ers, they are a young team. The franchise has been to the Super Bowl six times and they never lost,” said Pope. “This time, they are a young team with a new coach.”
Pope says there are three players on the 49ers you should know about. There is quarter back Colin Kaepernick from the University of Nevada, Vernon Davis from the University of Maryland and then there is Michael Crabtree, a third year player out of Texas Tech.
“You'll watch Crabtree on their offense because that’s their strong point,” said Pope.
On the opposing side, Pope says to watch for line backer Ray Lewis, who is retiring after 17 years in the NFL.
“He’s the inspirational leader for the team,” said Pope.
Then there is Michael Oher, who became well-known after the popular movie "The Blind Side" portrayed his life growing up.
Pope says you can't forget about Joe Flacco, who is the Raven's quarter back.
“He has been under a lot of scrutiny, but he has come on to play very well,” said Pope. “The contrast between the two quarter backs will be interesting.”
But one last thing to keep in mind this Sunday is the two teams will be contending in a very memorable stadium nestled in New Orleans.
“The Superdome has been around a long time,” said Pope. “It is the building that they have had the most Super Bowls in.”
Petie Pope is live on the Jim Davis Show every Friday morning on The Team 1340. They are Colorado’s Sports Leader.
The Super Bowl will broadcast this Sunday on NewsChannel 5.
