Proposal to Ban Abortion Fails

by KREX News Room
by Kristina Kuestner

DENVER(AP)- A bill banning abortions in Colorado is shot down in a Democratic-controlled committee Tuesday.

One Republican lawmaker joined six Democrats on the committee, to defeat the bill on a 7-4 vote.

Republican Representative Kathleen Conti called the measure "too extreme."

The legislation would have banned abortions in the state and made it a class-3 felony to perform them.

The bill would have exempted cases where a doctor performed an abortion to prevent the death of the mother and when an unborn child died accidentally during medical treatment.

Adoption instead of abortion, make adoption more affordable.

Actually, it shows the hypocrisy of those who decry government intrusion into someone's private life and advocate government intrusion into a woman's right to choose what happens to her own body. Don't get me wrong, abortion is a terrible thing, but banning it isn't the answer. The same arguments against banning guns apply to banning abortion - it won't stop it, just push it into the dark. So if its going to happen either way, why not try to at least protect the lives of the women involved?
