DENVER(AP)- A bill banning abortions in Colorado is shot down in a Democratic-controlled committee Tuesday.
One Republican lawmaker joined six Democrats on the committee, to defeat the bill on a 7-4 vote.
Republican Representative Kathleen Conti called the measure "too extreme."
The legislation would have banned abortions in the state and made it a class-3 felony to perform them.
The bill would have exempted cases where a doctor performed an abortion to prevent the death of the mother and when an unborn child died accidentally during medical treatment.
