Professional Riders Participate in Tour of the Moon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Around 2,000 cyclists started their journey at the Two Rivers Convention Center Saturday morning. They traveled all the way through the Colorado National Monument for Tour of the Moon.

Tom Danielson, a professional rider from Boulder, traveled to the valley to enjoy the inaugural race and all the scenic views from the monument.

"There was all kinds of corners; it was a really phenomenal experience. Then, descending back down into Grand Junction was pretty cool, too. You could see the city; you're overlooking it, really
nice turns," said Danielson.

The riders had their choice of a 41-mile loop over the Colorado National Monument, returning through the Redlands, or a 62-mile ride through the Alphabet Loop in Fruita.

The riders gathered afterward at the Two Rivers Convention Center for lunch and an expo.

So organizers calim 1,800 riders. This story claims 2,000. Several unbiased actual spectatots estimate around 400-500. Can anyone by them with a car says too many.

We made a mistake by only staying in GJ for a single night to attend this event. It was so amazing (despite snarky comments from locals, which surprised me) we'll be extending our stay next year to include the whole weekend! The organization was perfect and the ride was the prettiest we've done (and we do dozens each year). Amazing job. Hope the locals warm up to it!
