Powderhorn Boasts Best Snow in the State

MESA, Colo. - The recent winter storms have been great news for those at Powderhorn Mountain Resort who say they have seen the best snow in the state.

Officials with Powderhorn say in the last two days, more than 16" of snow have accumulated on top of their 38" base, which puts them as #4 in the country for snow fall.

They say they're happy to see so much fresh powder, especially after having to delay their opening day this year.

"Having to push off a day like that is very unfortunate, but we are very fortunate in the fact that we have been getting tons of snow, almost about four feet in the past 10 days, so we are very thankful and we also have the wonderful Mesa which is excellent at holding snow in general," said Gabrielle Michna, spokesperson for Powderhorn Mountain Resort.

In just a few days, Powderhorn will be holding their New Years Eve celebration with live music on the Sunset Deck, the Monster Ball Drop Rail Jam, their torch light parade followed by a fireworks display.

Officials say if the snow continues like it has throughout the winter they may consider lengthening the season, but for now closing day is still scheduled for March 31.

Definitely not trying to burst anyones ski/snowboard bubble but I'm pretty sure there are PLENTY of other ski resorts in the U.S. ahead of Powderhorn as far as seasonal snowfall goes this year. Take a peak at Mammoth, Heavenly, Northstar, and Kirkwood. I'm a Colorado native with plenty of homestate pride but I have to call a spade when I see it. Powderhorn has substantial ground to gained in the snowfall catagory before we give it the #4 spot.
