Popular Intersection Reopens

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The reconstruction of I-70B has caused some traffic congestion since its start back in April, but a portion of the road is set to reopen Thursday morning.

The intersection of 25 Road and I-70B has been shut down for nearly 20 days, causing some folks to plan different routes around town. However, as construction crews make progress on the site, they're ready to open the popular intersection.

“It’s a good thing because it's concrete pavement, so it's going to last longer, it's not going to be anymore maintenance inside the intersection,” said Matt Randall, project manager. “As far as turn movements, when it's all completed and we're out of here on I-70B, there will be safer movements coming in and off of Frontage Road and more turn movements onto I-70.”

They expect the intersection will be open no later than Thursday around 6 a.m. Officials say the intersection will require additional brief lane closures for small projects, but that folks should not have to worry about more full closures in the future.
