ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo.- A 24-year-old man who was reported missing along with his mother is now in custody. Authorities say they found his mother's body in the back seat of the car he was driving.

Arapahoe County sheriff's officials say Ari Liggett is being held without bond on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Liggett and his 56-year-old mother, Beverly Liggett, were reported missing Monday, Oct. 15.

Authorities say credit card transactions show they drove through Grand Junction early Tuesday morning.

The following morning on the Front Range, Greenwood Village police officials made contact with a vehicle being driven by Liggett.

They found the dismembered remains of his mother in the back seat.

Officials say while conducting an initial search of the suspect's home, investigators discovered a suspicious liquid, possibly potassium cyanide, as well as traces of blood and a saw in the dishwasher.

Ronald Liggett, Ari's father, tells KUSA-TV his son is mentally ill.
