DENVER- Airlines are trying to get back on track at Denver International Airport after major delays from Sandy forced dozens of planes to stay on the runway.

Airlines have positioned more than two dozen planes at DIA to help them return to normal service more quickly.

Airport officials say about 30 planes were parked at DIA overnight to prevent them from being stranded on the East Coast; that's three times the number of aircraft that usually park there.

The airport also expected a total of 35 aircraft Tuesday night in overflow parking spots, in addition to those already parked at gates.

Hurricane Sandy has forced the cancellations of thousands of flights across the country.

About 110 flights were canceled through Denver Tuesday; that's about the same number as Monday.
