Pitkin County Lifts Burn Ban

PITKIN COUNTY, Colo.- The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office plans on lifting its burn ban starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31.

After a meeting of local fire chiefs, Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo decided to lift the ban, which has been in place since April 5.

Local fire officials reported that fuel moisture levels in the Roaring Fork Valley are back to normal for the time of year, eliminating the need for a burn ban.

Although the wildfire danger may have subsided, officials are asking citizens to visit Pitkin Alert to learn how to sign up for Pitkin Alert.

Pitkin Alert is an emergency notification system that sends text, email, pager and voice alerts.
