GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Thousands of people lined up outside the soup kitchen Saturday to stop hunger in the Grand Valley.

The 17th annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser held by Grand Valley Catholic Outreach brought crowds of people to the soup kitchen to help raise money to feed the hungry.

Tickets were sold for $25, and children under 12 years of age got in free.

They were given soup, bread and dessert, along with a bowl to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.

"Well, every person who comes today might be enjoying it with family, which is good, but they're also helping people who don't have as much as they might have," said Sister Karen Bland, executive director of Grand Valley Catholic Outreach.

Organizers say they had plenty of soup to go around.

They hope to make around $20,000.

All of the money will stay at the soup kitchen.
