GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A Paonia man is making his name known nationally, as he stars in an upcoming mini-series on Animal Planet.

Jeff Biggs, who goes by the name “Biggs” on the upcoming three part mini-series, “Battleground: Rhino Wars,” grew up in Paonia.

The show documents the struggle to protect rhinos in South Africa from poachers, who reportedly killed nearly 700 rhinos last year for their horns.

Park rangers are desperate for help and now four U.S Special Forces veterans have come to join the fight, including Biggs, who was selected as a sniper and point man.

"Growing up in the country, I have a fondness for animals and conservation to begin with,” said Biggs, team member of Rhino Wars. “So it helps me going over sees and doing things for animals. As far as the military, I grew up in a hunting family and hunted to feed that family and we can carry on that tradition now.”

Biggs says he plans to go back to South Africa to continue to help the rhinos, with or without a camera crew.

"Battleground: Rhino Wars" airs March 7th at 9 p.m. EST on Animal Planet.

He will be working for the South African government, our government would dub him as an outlaw.

Look at that. He is caring an AR 15 to save Rhino's but the government doesn't want us to carry AR's to protect ourselves.
