PALISADE, Colo.- Residents in the Grand Valley are well aware of the amenities Palisade has to offer, which include wine, art and adventure. A local resident is on a mission to make the uniqueness of the town known to people across the country.

Mayor Roger Granat of Palisade said, "The nation needs to know that in America there is still the small town that we all envisioned as we were growing up."

Despite being a small town, Palisade satisfies travelers' appetites, no matter what they're craving.

Rebecca Levy, the community development director for the town of Palisade, said, "There's a lot of neat small towns, but there's not a lot to do. Palisade has a lot to do, for a variety of people."

Mayor Granat was born and raised in the small peach town.

"Had 10 acres of peaches before I was out of high school. I've seen this town grow from a quiet little peach industry into what we have today," he said.

Another Grand Valley resident is new to town. However, in a short time he has realized that towns like Palisade are rare.

Digital managing director Tim Gray said, "Their wineries, their distillery, the mead house, their breweries and just the town itself is phenomenal. So I thought, why not try to jump on board and get Palisade as one of the coolest small towns of America."

Gray is using social media to to help put the town on the map.

"Radio, Facebook and I'm actually going to go out and Instagram stuff next week. Budget Travel, who actually puts on this contest, has been doing this for quite a few years, and people really fight hard to become the 'coolest small town'," Gray said.

Locals know why they love Palisade and are ready for the rest of the nation to come see it with their own eyes.

Not even close. Truckee or Barstow will win before Palisade will.
