PALISADE, Colo.- Downtown Palisade has been buzzing with excitement for the past two days.
Folks flooded the streets during the town's fifth annual International Honeybee Festival and Saturday is the event's final day.
This year's fest featured a children's "Best Bee" costume contest as well as a spelling bee.
Officials say every year the event grows bigger and better.
“I just think this is Palisade at it's best,” said Ellen Scott, member of the Palisade Chamber. “We just like to have a lot of fun.”
The yearly event is put on by Palisade's Chamber of Commerce.
The 2-day event also featured live music, vendors and even educational presentations.
Officials say the primary motivation for the festival is to draw attention to the worldwide dilemma of honeybee colony collapse. It affects local communities like Palisade, who rely on the honey business to contribute to the town's commerce in many different ways.
