Orchard Mesa Residents Mandated to a Water Cycle

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Orchard Mesa residents living west of 29 Road have been given a new, mandated water irrigation cycle. Orchard Mesa Irrigation made the decision to put this plan in place due to the drought.

Max Schmidt, the manager of Orchard Mesa Irrigation District, said he had to make the decision to put this plan in place immediately.

"I was hoping to get through Fourth of July weekend; every canal in the Grand Valley dreads Fourth of July weekend. Everyone the week before tries to water everything before they're gone for the weekend and every time a person opens the head gate it effects the head gates up and downstream. That was my plan, we ran out of water before that," said Schmidt.

There is no set time frame for how long this plan will be in place.
For more information about the water cycle plan contact the Orchard Mesa Irrigation District at 464-7885 or visit their website at www.irrigationprovidersgv.org/residential.php.
