GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- More than 150 coats, mittens, scarves and hats were donated to Grand Valley Catholic Outreach Thursday afternoon by the Orchard Mesa Lions Club.

Members say their goal is to help the community. They say once the word got out about many people in need of coats this winter season, the gear started piling in.

"If they have a need and they can let us know, then we will certainly dive into it. That's our role in the community, to help where we can," said Sharon Nickerson, member of the Orchard Mesa Lions Club.

"If you look around, you don't see us with too many coats still hanging because people have come in and gotten them. What people donate is in such good condition, that anyone would be proud to wear them; if it's their style and their size," said Sister Karen Bland with Grand Valley Catholic Outreach.

Grand Valley Catholic Outreach offers a free clothing bank, which is where residents can receive up to 30 items of clothing without paying a penny Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon.

They say residents are in need of coats, but any winter item donated is appreciated.
