MESA COUNTY, Colo.- The Mesa Land Trust announced that it received a grant Wednesday for land preservation.

Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) awarded MLT with nearly $381,204 to protect a little more than 58 acres of orchard land between Palisade and the Clifton area.

"Orchards have been a part of Mesa County's heritage since the community settled, and we think it's an important part to carry on into the future," said Rob Bleiberg, executive director of Mesa Land Trust.

Three properties, located near the Colorado River and Corn Lake, Highway 6 near 35 Road and Interstate 70 near Palisade, will receive conservation easements to keep the lands from being subdivided or developed into housing.

The lands, however, can be used for farming.
