Operation Interdependence Raises Money For Postage Costs

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Operation Interdependence is an organization that sends thousands of deployed troops goody bags to help make their deployment a little easier.

O.I has been around for eight years and officials say they send 50 boxes of 50 quart size bags reaching 2,500 deployed troops per month.

Officials say there goal is to send every deployed man and woman a bag once a month. "They [service men and women] really do like it, we get emails back occasionally. I just recently got an email from a commander that is getting ready to come home and he said people do not realize how important it is to receive these bags over there. It brings a taste of home and lets them know that they are supported," said Karon Carley, national president of Operation Interdependence.

The money raised on Saturday will go to postage fees that cost anywhere from $1,500 to $2,000 per month.

O.I.'s only location in Colorado is in Grand Junction. However, O.I. is located throughout the country in 10 other locations.

At any one time, officials say there are 350,000 United States troops deployed.
