GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- This holiday season, Grand Valley residents will work to help children in need around the world.

Operation Christmas Child is the largest Christmas project of its kind.

Throughout the entire week, local community groups will be collecting shoe boxes filled with items.

The goal is to get 10,000 shoe boxes filled during National Collection Week.

Organizers are asking folks to fill boxes with simple products like personal hygiene items, schools supplies and toys

“You'll bless a child's life, and they will actually be amazed that someone across the other side of the world loves them and cares for them,” said Sandy Schalbrack of Operation Christmas Child. “Because most of them have never been told they're loved.”

Operation Christmas Child will be collecting the goods until Nov. 19.
