GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo.- The Colorado State Patrol responded to a fatal crash in Garfield County Friday night.

Officials say a 1994 Toyota pickup truck driven by a 22-year-old male was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 near mile marker 94.

The passenger, a 19-year-old male, was the owner of the truck. The driver lost control and the truck traveled off the left side of the roadway. The truck rolled more than once before coming to rest on its side in the center median.

The driver and passenger both sustained serious injuries during the crash. The passenger later died at the hospital. Initial evidence indicates the driver was wearing his seat belt and the passenger was not.

Garfield County deputies and Burning Mountain Fire and EMS were first on scene. Big Steve’s Towing in Gypsum towed the truck.

Alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the accident. It does not appear that weather or road conditions were factors in the crash.

CSP is still investigating the cause of the crash.
