OLATHE, Colo.- After months of waiting, the Olathe Community Health Clinic received word Wednesday morning that federal aid was on the way to the small health center.

As part of the Affordable Care Act, the Olathe Community Health Center will soon be the beneficiary of a $650,000 grant from the federal government.

The initiative is part of the federal government's plan to help those who are uninsured and underinsured nationwide.

In Colorado, 659,000 people are uninsured and 829,000 are underinsured.

The clinic sees about 4,200 patients every year and management says this money will help enhance their services.

Jon Gordon, executive director for the Center of Mental Health, said, "We're going to be able to serve more people, people who may not have health insurance and people who don't have access to health care. This clinic is going to do that and this funding that was announced today is making that possible."

Officials from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services say the grant will last for two years and funds will likely be renewed.
