Officials: Wildfire Season Not Over

RIO BLANCO COUNTY, Colo.- Officials are warning the public that even though the valley is seeing the leaves changing, the fire season is not over yet.

As many as a dozen small to medium-sized fires have been reported in the past week; in Moffat and Rio Blanco counties, lightning sparked five wildland fires.

All were able to be contained after growing less than one-tenth of an acre.

Fire officials stress that northwest Colorado is still experiencing a drought.

Officials offer some tips to keep wildfires from starting: never leave a campfire unattended and do not park vehicles in tall vegetation as exhaust fumes can ignite.
