Officials Talk Grand Valley Labor Market

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Construction could soon be the backbone of our local labor market, according to one expert.

Dee Funkhouser from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment spoke to several business leaders at Western Colorado Community College Wednesday morning.

She focused on the importance of the construction and information technology industries in Grand Junction, and says it’s important for the future of our local economy.

“Having an idea of kind of where the industry is projected to go, can help you make the best possible and strategically minded decisions,” said Funkhouser. “It’s not the only information business owners need by a long shot, but it is helpful.”

Funkhouser says the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment is projecting a steady growth in the overall job market during the year 2013.

One other thing, can anybody tell what happen to GJ, it use to have a amusment park, and other activities, but now theres nothing for kids or teens, and all the "natives" just complain about the kids and teensand oil and gas... Theres not enough resturants, not enough shopping please explain why..

Ok so construction is what we need to focus on, but who are we building for? This area has done nothing but complain about the gas industry, I keep here people say "remember the bust of the 80's" well its happening again, and this timeits there own fault. And once again they have no plan, accept construction... Construstion for what?

I couldn't agree more. The Liberals have run high paying construction and oil field jobs out of town, and replaced it with costly and cost ineffective green energy programs. They already chased out $30 an hour manufacturing of USA made light bulbs and mandated the use of mercury laden light bulbs that do not last over a year and you need hazmat if you drop one.

A pipe dream. Is the high demand for new construction the reason the old Furrs cafeteria building has set vacant for A COUPLE OF DECADES? Besides, all of the carpenters and other construction workers have been ran out of this valley by the destruction of the economy by democrat hacks determined to advance the green energy flim-flam.
