Fire Officials Optimistic About Colorado River Fire Rescue Authority

by KREX News Room

RIFLE, Colo.- A partnership between two Western Slope fire departments will hopefully be more efficient and effective for taxpayers.

On Wednesday, Sept. 26, officials from the Burning Mountains Fire Protection District and the Rifle Fire Protection District will team up to create the Colorado River Fire Rescue Authority.

According to officials from the Rifle Fire Protection District, the groups hope the organization will help crews work more cooperatively together.

Although the Burning Mountains and the Rifle Fire Protection District will remain as two separate districts, officials say operational services will be done through the Colorado River Fire Rescue Authority, greatly reducing the cost for each fire district.

Officials say the two districts have been in negotiations for several years. Glenwood Springs has also been involved in the process, but they have not signed into the agreement.
