MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Election officials say in the first week of October they registered more than 4,200 voters.

Currently, 69 percent of Mesa County residents are registered to vote.

Election officials say they think that number will increase.

"We're expecting to send out about 50,000 mail ballots, which is approximately 75 percent of voters in the county, and instead we are sending out about 60,000 mail ballots, and that's 78 percent of the voters in the county," said Amanda Hilgenfeld with the Mesa County Elections Office.

In the past three days alone, officials registered about 1,000 people.

On Tuesday, which was the last day to register, they had more than 500 people sign up to vote.
