Officials Plan to Build Multi-Million Dollar Shooting Complex in Cameo

CAMEO, Colo. - Colorado Parks and Wildlife is teaming up with Palisade administrators to try to turn thousands of acres in Cameo into a large shooting complex.

Palisade officials say that the old Xcel power plant in Cameo is being disassembled and Parks and Wildlife is looking to purchase that land and turn it into a complex that would have several different shot gun, pistol, rifle and archery ranges.

Officials say they hope recreationist, tourists and people looking to compete in sports shooting will use the complex and boost the local economy.

"Our local businesses, our restaurants and our hotels see some lag periods. We think this facility, being a year round facility, would be able to help fill some of those slow spots and would be great for the economic benefit of all of our businesses," said Richard Sales with Palisade town administration.

Currently, officials are gathering letters of support to present to Xcel in hopes of purchasing the land.

The entire complex is estimated to cost $8-10 million.

That boost to the local economy will go down the toilet if the current round of anti-gun legislation is passed. Guides and outfitters are already losing bookings and more will follow....not a threat....jusy the looming reality

Sorry, the BLM closed the desert as it is very fragile and cannot recover from being walked upon.

Most people will continue to go to the desert for free.

Cameo is a long way out of town. Who is really making money from this scam? Who will actually pay money to "shoot" when they can shoot other places for free or much less? This has all the earmarks of being a scam to either take public money or something else weird.
