Officials Hold Open House to Discuss Highway 6 Corridor Plan

PALISADE, Colo.- Officials gave residents in Palisade a better look at different options being considered for the Highway 6 Corridor Improvement Plan.

Highway 6 belongs to the Colorado Department of Transportation. As a result, through a series of open houses, town officials say they want to make sure the community's input is heard once CDOT is ready to move forward with a renovation project.

"As the road is continually utilized more from sources outside of town, we need to address these intersections now such that they don't just sneak up on us and become unworkable in the future," said Richard Matthews with the Palisade Planning Commission.

Officials say so far, the feedback seems to show a strong need for improved safety and sidewalks along the corridor, especially in front of Palisade High School.

Town officials say they would like to see renovations to the entire corridor from the high school to the point where Highway 6 crosses the Colorado River.

They say it has not seen any major renovations since it was put in place in 1949.
