Officials Estimate Galena Fire at 75% Containment

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. - Larimer County officials say by the end of Sunday evening, they expect to have the Galena Wildfire west of Fort Collins at 75 percent containment.

Saturday, calmer weather allowed crews to gain the upper hand after the fire grew to between 750 and 1,000 acres. However, officials said Sunday that acreage is likely to be higher, although they don't have an official estimate yet.

Windy conditions Sunday hampered fire crews' abilities to fully extinguish the flames, but brief rain and snow showers helped their efforts.

Many of the residents forced out of their homes during evacuations were allowed to return Saturday.

No injuries have been reported. No structures have been damaged.
