GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- For the first time, outdoor enthusiasts from all over are coming together on Friday, for the Walking and Biking Trails Summit.

The event is taking place at the Two Rivers Convention Center in downtown Grand Junction.

The summit features speakers and experts who are trying to emphasize the benefit of having trails in a community. It's exploring areas such as health and safety, transportation, recreation and economic impact.

“We really want this to be a call to action,” said Julie Sabin of the Urban Trails Committee. “So that out of all of our breakout sessions in our planning today, we have action steps in the future to make it all happen for a better community with better connectivity of trails.”

Officials say they hope to host something like this every year.
The event is going on until 3 p.m. on Friday and will cost you $15 at the door.

As the vote comes up for the property located on the Colorado River at 27-1/2 Road owned by SLB Enterprises out of Utah, aka Brady Trucking, we should ask ourselves, Is this the best thing for our community? Will it give us more trails? The City Council seems to believe it is up to the voters to decide what is best. May people may vote because of the billboards that say quote "Say yes to more jobs, say yes to more trails" But the facts are that the City will require the property to have a trail system through it as part of the Grand Valley Trails Master Plan. Anyone who develops along the Colorado River will be REQUIRED to have a trail easement. Brady Trucking will not be adding anything that isn't already required by the City. As for jobs, if Brady is wanting to add jobs why haven't they fully developed that land they own that's already approved? They haven't. They have been offered a land swap for land already zoned industrial adjacent to their land that is not in the flood plain.
