Off-Road Event Successful, Downtown Businesses Say

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Downtown Grand Junction businesses say this Labor Day has been one of the most active and commerce-driven they've seen in a long time.
Officials say it's due in large part to the Off-Road Mountain Bike Challenge. However, the three-day event wasn't without its struggles.
Races around Main Street shut down most of the downtown commerce area. Many businesses say that caused some problems getting customers in Friday. But the thousands of people that showed up for the races made up for it the rest of the weekend.
"Saturday was extremely busy and Sunday was one of the busiest we've had in a long time. It was great," said Brian Badini with Pollux clothing store.
Most businesses say they hope to have the event back again next year with a little more planning and warning about how traffic will be impacted.
