Noteworthy Bills to be Heard in Senate Committees

DENVER- The Senate has scheduled two hotly contested bills to be heard in committee next week.

SB 13-011 will be heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

The bill allows two people, regardless of gender, to enter into a civil union.

The legislation will grant partners who enter a civil union the responsibility to finally support one another; property rights; protections against discrimination based upon spousal status; rights within the probate laws; the ability to adopt a partner's child; protections under domestic violence laws; legal rights relating to medical care and treatment and hospital visitation; eligibility for family leave benefits; and other rights and responsibilities.


SB 13-033 will be heard in the Senate Education Committee on Thursday, Jan. 24.

The bill would allow Colorado high school grads, regardless of citizenship, to attend a state college or university at an in- state tuition rate.
