No One Home, House Catches Fire

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A house caught on fire when no one was home, but thanks to neighbors who called authorities quick, the Grand Junction Fire Department was able to save the house.

Around 12:30 Friday afternoon, nine units and 22 personnel responded to a fire to the attic and a bedroom on the corner of the home.

While firefighters were in the process of pulling down ceilings, a portion of it came down and left one firefighter with minor injuries.

Officials say the firefighter was taken to the hospital, but was well enough to be released shortly after.

The fire department used a new device that sprays out foam to help mop up the area.

"It's a foam system that uses less water so we see overall less damage," said Mike Page, spokesperson for the Grand Junction Fire Department.

Fire officials say there was significant damage to the home and are still investigating what caused the fire.

The family is staying with local relatives for the night.
