GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A local school was placed on lockdown Thursday after Grand Junction police received reports of a person walking around with a gun in the area.

At around 2:45 p.m., authorities received reports of a person holding what appeared to be a rifle near North Avenue and 28 3/4 Road.

Nisley Elementary School was put on lockdown as a precaution.

According to Grand Junction police, officers eventually contacted a woman who was carrying a plastic gun.

They say she never threatened anyone with it and was never on school property.

The school was taken out of lockdown a short time later.
