GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- After a year of planning and raising money, Nisley Elementary will soon break ground on a new playground.

The Colorado Health Foundation recently awarded the school a $275,000 grant.

Officials say they were due for a new playground. It will focus on safer structures and will also provide additional activities for the kids.

Curry Newton, principal of the school, said, "First and foremost, the incidents of childhood obesity is increasing. For us, our playground is a community resource; 24/7 it is being used."

This is the second grant the school has received, and they're still working to raise additional money.

The total cost will be $480,000; construction is set to begin immediately.
