New Report Shows Teenage Tobacco Use Declining

COLORADO- A new report released by the Center for Disease Control shows tobacco use is on the decline amongst middle and high school aged students.

The CDC's report is based off the 2011 National Tobacco Youth Survey which showed from 2000 - 2011 there was as downward trend in tobacco use in high school aged students from 34.4 percent to 23.2 percent.

A downward trend in tobacco use was also observed in middle school aged students. The report showed 14.9 percent of students using tobacco in 2000 and only 7.1 percent using tobacco in 2011.

The report also says that 90 percent of people who use tobacco products as teenagers become addicted by age 18.
