New Local Disaster Responders Ready to Help

There are now 45 new disaster responders in the Grand Valley thanks to an American Red Cross training session.
The classes were for three days on the second weekend in October, and people with little or no knowledge of being a first responder were given a crash course.
“It’s a great deal of knowledge in three days, but it means at the end of this weekend they are ready to serve their communities and respond to local disasters,” said Area Red Cross Manager Luzon Kahler.
Local disaster responders learned how to help average people when tragedies like floods, blizzards, and wildfires devastate towns, but typically they respond to local house fires to help victims get back on their feet.
Red Cross responders were very active in supporting the flooded communities this past September.
