New Facility Specializes in Midwife Childbirth

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Western Slope's first free-standing birth center held an open house Saturday to celebrate their new business.
The facility is the second one of its kind in Colorado.
Bloomin' Babies Birth Center said they pride themselves on their low-tech approach to child delivery.
“I think it’s much lower stress; you don't have people coming and going, you don't have shift change. When a woman comes in here and labors with me, I'm going to be with her the entire time,” says owner and nurse Patty Kandiko.
The birthing center says there's a growing demand in the U.S. for mid-wife led births.
They say their facility is for "low-risk" mothers because although they have emergency equipment, they don't have all the medical gear you would find in a typical hospital.
