Neighbors React to Grand Junction Heroin Bust

by John Dias

Grand Junction - Four people are behind bars for possession and use of numerous drugs, including heroin, in a Grand Junction neighborhood.

Agents with the Mesa County Drug Task Force carried out a sting operation at a home on Elm Avenue, which is in a neighborhood divided between families and college students, and just walking distance to Colorado Mesa University.

According to police, Buddy Cates, Stormye Fergeson, Keaton Eaton, and Luis Villa-Pando were booked into the Mesa County Jail on drug charges after surveillance of the Elm Avenue home.

During the search of the home, officers found more than 10 grams of heroine, a small amount of cocaine, meth, hallucinogenic mushrooms, as well as four guns.

The next-door neighbor of the four suspects said he often sees quite a large amount of police around his neighborhood, so though he is a little afraid, he's not very surprised. “It's really everywhere, and being close to campus and all that kind of stuff and just being down the road,” said Jordan Passhl, neighbor, “I mean, I'm sure it goes on everywhere else.“

Neighbors across the street added that though the alleged crimes are serious, the four suspects aren’t violent people.

Fergeson, Eaton, and Cates were booked on possession and use of heroin, whereas Villa-Pando is facing possession, use and distribution charges.
