National Migraine Awareness Month

by KREX News Room

Fruita - For millions of Americans, migraines are a real pain. During Migraine Awareness Month each January, more attention is drawn to the treatment options available for the condition.

Fruita dentist Gary Andreoletti says traditional medications aren't enough for many migraine sufferers. He's been experimenting with new therapies involving lasers, ultrasound, and microcurrents to stimulate blood flow and reduce tension. However, he says there's plenty you can do at home.

“The ultimate goal is getting people at home to do what they ought to do to diminish or eliminate the migraines, and that’s relaxation, putting ice on their necks, actually drinking one cup of coffee is good,” Andreoletti said.

He also says you should avoid skipping meals, drink in moderation, stay away from smoke or perfume-filled rooms, maintain a regular sleep schedule, and take time for yourself.

MAGNUM: Migraine Awareness Group a National Understanding for Migrainers. I believe they introduced it in January 2010. Visit their website for more information.

Yes, do let me know how and when National Migraine Awareness started? Never, ever heard of it and have been advocating for Migraine disease for at least seven years.....

When did January become Migraine awareness month? Who sponsors it? In ten years as a patient educator and advocate in this field, I've never come across this observance. There's a recognized awareness week in June, but I've never heard of this.
