GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Avalon Theatre in Grand Junction could be getting a new name, if someone's willing to pay for it. On Monday evening Grand Junction City Councilors heard recommendations for naming opportunities of the theatre.
Through the naming opportunities, the Avalon Theatre Naming Rights Committee plans to generate additional private contributions for its renovation projects.
John Halvorson, president of the Avalon Foundation, said, "There's a lot of interest in the project, from individuals in the community. Around the state, from different grants that do funding for different kinds of projects, there's a lot of interest."
On Monday the committee recommended some of the following for naming rights:
Avalon Theatre Building: $4 million or greater (targets Phase II)
The Multi-Purpose Room: $600,000 to $1 million
The Rooftop Terrace: $500,000 to $750,000
Lobby, Main Floor: $200,000 to $500,000
Concessions, four possibilities: $50,000 to $100,000
Smaller donations are also welcome and will earn recognition on the donor wall.
City Council members asked the committee to re-hash some of the cost ranges and also provide term limits for the names. They plan to meet again in two weeks.
