GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Museum of Western Colorado has partnered with Chevron and Colorado Mesa University to offer an educational tour of Mayan Ruins in the Yucatan.

Chevron chose to donate to the Museum's educational travel program, a group that has offered these trips for years.

Now, with the help of CMU professors, students and community members will be able to participate in a whole new experience.

"We believe education is critical to promoting economic vitality and a strong quality of life in the communities where we live, work and play," said Cary Baird of Chevron's Rocky Mountain Area.

CMU Assistant Professor of Art, Jake Allee, will hold a class in the fall of 2013 that will prepare students who would like to go on the trip.

"To be in these cities, you're going to get the feeling of what it was like to stand there back in the classic era around 900 A.D.," said Allee.

While members of the class will be targeted to go on the trip, CMU alumni and all members of the Grand Valley are welcome to join the experience.

The trip is scheduled for October 19-27, 2013.

An informational, fiesta-themed meeting will be held on April 4th at 6:30 P.M. in the CMU Ballroom for those interested.

Refreshments with a "Yucatan flair" will be served during a short presentation, and parking will be available in the 12th and Elm parking garage.
