GEORGETOWN, Colo.- A motorist is in custody after authorities say she stole a Clear Creek sheriff's deputy's vehicle during a traffic stop, prompting a chase through central Colorado's mountains.

The sheriff's office says the female driver, whose name and age have not been released, was pulled over on Interstate 70 just before 10 a.m. Sunday.

After backing into the patrol car, she was handcuffed and placed into a sheriff's vehicle.

Authorities say that while deputies were investigating the scene, she escaped her restraints and stole the deputy's vehicle.

The ensuing chase headed west on I-70 and ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle and rolled.

She is being treated at a hospital.
