Montrose Manufacturers, Big And Small
KREX News Room
MONTROSE, Colo.-Plenty of manufacturers call Montrose home, but many of those in the community are unaware of this.
Two of them are TEI Rock Drills and 4EverLight International. Both of their owners say their companies aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
Sue Frank, president of TEI Rock Drills, said, "You're in a smaller community that allows your employees to be more family oriented because they don't have an hour long commute to work everyday."
TEI Rock drills is a Montrose based company that makes drilling attachments and limited access rigs. Everything is manufactured in Montrose and Frank says they are the only U.S. based drill manufacturer left.
TEI Operates out of an office and plant in Montrose. It's quite the opposite of Steve Nagle, co-owner of 4EverLight International. He makes his products out of his garage.
Nagle said although he makes glow sticks, they are much more than toys.
"You've got emergencies that come up either from a tornado, a flood, or a hurricane or an earthquake. We have all of these different things going on as far as needing light when the power fails. When the power goes out, you've instantly got a light from our products."
Nagle said he has done a lot of research on glow technology and says what sets him apart from his competitors is that his product's glow will always recharge from a source of ultraviolet light.
Both companies are not only celebrating success in the U.S., but have clients overseas as well.
Combined, both companies ship to Canada, Italy, South Africa, Australia, Singapore, Finland and Brazil.
With as much success as these two companies have had, their owners say they wouldn't trade their home base of Montrose for anything.
"To have a business here in a rural area, back to the Western Slope, seems like what goes around comes around, and now I've come around," said Nagle.
