MONTROSE COUNTY, Colo.- Montrose County has been given a major honor by two national organizations.

America's Promise Alliance and ING have named the Western Slope county one of the "Top 100 Best Communities for Young People" for a second year in a row.

The county had to complete a rigorous application detailing existing programs that help create youth leaders and provide after school activities, as well as assistance for disadvantaged youth.

“It allows the kids to have pride in their community,” said Melanie Hall, director of the Montrose Community Foundation. “They can hold their heads up high and say that they’re from the Montrose County.”

The county will receive a $2,500 grant to help build the school’s Club 6S Program.

The program utilizes a leadership and critical thinking program to help educators teach students important life skills.
