Mobility Van To Be Handed Down

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A family needs help raising money to pay off a van that helps people with ALS disease.

A wheelchair accessible van that makes those diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, life a little easier is in the hands of Dan Keenan.

Family members say Keenan has up to three weeks longer to live, and his one wish is to give the van away to others with ALS.

In order to do that, the Keenan family must pay off a loan that's attached to the van they were given by an anonymous donor.

They say the van has helped Keenan live out the last couple months of his life to the fullest.

"Dan's dream is to pass it on, it's kind of a memorial to him. His wish is to have more vans in Western Colorado to help people with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease, that do not have benefits," said sister Cindy Keenan.

"I'm pretty much wheelchair, or walk-assisted, so I can't just run out to the car and run down to City Market anymore, so that would open up and keep on that streak of independence," said Greg Podgorny, future van recipient.

The wheelchair accessible van costs $43,400.

The Keenan family needs around $23,000 more before they can give it away to Greg Podgorny.
