GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Instead of feeding the pig, non-profits across the state are asking you to donate to a larger cause during “Colorado Gives Day.”

Starting at midnight on Tuesday, folks across Colorado will come together to raise millions for nonprofits. Last year nearly 13 million dollars reached Colorado nonprofits.

“There are several different organizations participating this year,” said Amanda Crysler of United Way of Mesa County. “It's the third year ‘Colorado Gives Day’ has been put together, but the first time United Way is participating in it.”

“Colorado Gives Day” is a one-day initiative when Coloradans can increase philanthropy through online donations.

“We are trying to raise 1.25 million dollars here in the community through the United Way annual campaign,” said Crysler.

Any money donated during the event will go right to that annual fund, which is money that is put towards the 54 nonprofits that United Way funds.

“Each donation that is given to the organization, 100 percent of the money is donated to us there is no fees taken out,” said Joy Thompson of Western Slope Center for Children.

The center, which is partially funded by United Way, is an advocacy organization that provides services for children of sexual abuse.

“The donations that we get really help us to support those children, and start the process for healing the children that come to our center,” said Thompson.

Besides the funds the center will receive from United Way, officials say they're also collaborating with 7 other agencies this year during “Colorado Gives Day,” which will bring in more funds to the organization.

"Every little bit of fundraising helps,” said Thompson. “We are a nonprofit organization. Without the help from donors and sponsors, we wouldn’t exist. So every dollar helps to provide services to children in need.”

The value of every donated dollar will increase from the efforts of 1st Bank incentive fund. The more everyone gives, the greater the amount the organization will donate.

You can donate at Givingfirst.org, and can set it up before hand, so it will automatically donate to your charity of choice at midnight on Tuesday.
