FRUITA, Colo. -
The 15th Annual Mike the Headless Chicken Festival began Friday afternoon.
This year's theme is Mikearitaville and event officials made made sure the festival was complete with island music and tons of sand.
Planners used 25 dump trucks filled with sand to turn Aspen Avenue into a beach volley ball court for the occasion.
Local vendors filled the Memorial Park for the festival where there was a beer garden for adults and many free games and activities for kids.
The festival continues Saturday with a 5K Run/Walk starting at 9:00 a.m. Registration for that race will be open until 8:30 a.m.
There's also a disc golf tournament starting at the Snooks Bottom Parking lot at 10 a.m.
Later in the day there will be several other activities including a car show, a bicycle poker ride, a chicken wing and peeps eating contest and more.Click here
