MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Students from Mt. Garfield Middle School are taking part in a "once in a lifetime opportunity," says tech ed teacher Kevin Elisah, to design Christmas ornaments for the national Christmas tree.

The tree will be coming from the White River National Forest in Rio Blanco County this November, and as part of the celebration, Colorado students have been invited to design ornaments for the tree.

The goal is for Colorado students to make 5,000 ornaments for the enormous tree, at least 100 of which will come from Mt. Garfield Middle School.

The theme, of course, is "Fun in Colorado."

"There's a lot of neat ones that depict the things we do in Colorado, like a snow machine, ATVs, snowmen and sleighs," said Elisah.

Elisah says he heard about this project via the Internet, and the ornaments will be mailed out to Washington, D.C. later this week.
