GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Nearly 100 people gathered at the DoubleTree Hotel to celebrate Mesa County United Way's 2012-2013 campaign.

Officials revealed that as of February 28th, the United Way has raised $1,002,102, a 7% decrease from the funds raised at this point last year.

"Despite some set-backs, it is a huge success to see that we still raised over a million dollars," said Co-Chair Karen Troester. "This shows that our community wants to give and help those in need locally, and they gave whatever they could."

The United Way's initial goal for this campaign was to raise a total of $1.25 million.

In order to meet or close in on this goal, United Way of Mesa County will continue to accept pledges for the campaign until March 15th.

51 non-profit organizations across Mesa County applied for funding from United Way this year.

Special awards were issued to companies that showed outstanding community leadership and service throughout the campaign.

Hmmm, down 7%, imagine that. It is almost as if "pay-to-play" is loosing popularity in The Peoples Republic of Mesa County.
