Grand Junction - The Mesa County Sheriff's Office is hosting two meetings with Glade Park and Redlands residents. The Sheriff's Office is seeking to develop an improved county wide wildfire protection plan.

The first meeting occurred at 7:00 PM Thursday 26th with Glade Park residents. The second will be held at Wingate Elementary cafeteria Friday 27th in the evening at 6:00 PM.

John Coleman, with the Sheriff's Office, explained the best way to protect your property is to create a defensible area. To create this area, Coleman says to create this area, clear trees and shrubs away from your home. Also, a barrier around your home, like stones, would help mitigate the wildfire threat.

Mesa County has also hired outside help to conduct a wildfire assessment survey of Mesa County. The survey will reveal which areas are not only at higher risk but will help modernize Mesa County's wildfire protection plan.

Maintained fire breaks worked really well, then the EPA got put in charge of "protecting" our lands susceptible to forest and range fires. What is their best opinion? let it burn, then they cry like a bunch of babies that there is too much CO2 in the air, DUH! So much for the EPAs understanding of the environment.
