Mesa County Still Struggling With Foreclosures

MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Foreclosure numbers in Colorado hit a 5-year low in May. However, Mesa County is still struggling.

The Colorado Division of Housing reports that foreclosure auction sales have been down 19 of the last 20 months; however, foreclosure filings continue to rise. Foreclosure filing is the initial step that begins the foreclosure process. They do not always result in foreclosure.

In Mesa County, there was a 21 percent increase in foreclosure filings during the first five months of this year compared to the first five months of last year.

Out of 12 counties in the report, Mesa had the highest rate of foreclosure sales during May. The lowest rate was found in Boulder County.

Amy Case, supervisor with the Grand Junction Housing Authority, told NewsChannel 5 that the high foreclosure rate in Mesa County is most likely due to a higher unemployment rate.

If you're looking to refinance your mortgage, many use 123 Refinance which will shop the national marketplace of lending companies for you, and you'll likely get a better rate.
